Using those BIG hoops for BIG projects is a fun class showing best practices to use embroidery machines’ BIG hoops to create dramatic Applique and Embroidery projects. Participants will get hands on experience working with a variety of big hoops, including practicing hooping and they will learn professional stabilizing and hooping techniques for different materials and objects. A variety of different types of large embroidery projects will be displayed, examined and discussed, and participants will receive a digital download pack of large applique designs to try on their own machines.

Leashes, Socks, Mittens, Collar Corners, Pockets, and More – They are all hard to hoop but they can all be done easily without specialized tools. Who wants to spend $700 to hoop a pair of socks, or another $500 to hold a dog leash or name tape? You don’t have to do that – let me show you how. In this class, we will hoop actual projects using just the hoop that came with your machine and a couple of easy to find and use stabilizers.

In this class you will be learning how to make an IN THE HOOP bag tag. In the first part of the class, Melissa will teach all the techniques needed for this project. Then, you will move into the Hands on portion. The price of the class includes the material as well as the digitized design used to create the bag tag. We will provide 4 machines at the front of the room, that you will be able to take turns to create your tag. You are also welcome to bring YOUR machine. We will have tables with power so you will be able to plug in and go. For those of you who would like to attend the class but not participate in the hands on portion, you can take the material home and create it there.

Applique designs are perfect for decorating wearables and quilts. Change the fabric and thread, and you have a “brand-new” design. But they can be so much more. All my free-standing and 3D designs began with a regular applique design. We’ll discuss edits that might be needed and materials that can be used to turn your static applique designs into works of art that can literally stand on their own. SVG files are a versatile vector-based art format that are used by embroidery digitizers and graphic designers. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to make your own original vector-based art (in SVG format) as well as edit existing files. We’ll be locating and installing new fonts, covering common editing techniques, and experimenting with brushes, lines, and shapes to produce different looks. Don’t think you have the right software? Have no fear – we will be using freely available programs.
What is a serger, how is it used, and what can you do with it? All of these questions will be answered in this class. This will be a very fun and informative class about all things sergers!

Learn how to design and print custom apparel. All you need is a heat press. We will explore several different transfer offerings, show how they can be made, and offer application tips!
How to digitize lettering – In this class we will delve into the tools and process followed to create designs that happen to look like letters – focusing on those created with the satin turning angle column style of embroidery. Satin stitches are the strongest stitches that can cause the most movement when stitched – in embroidery “bad words” think puckering, pulling, clumping and muddy looking stitches. So, we will discuss the planning as well as the digitizing tools and their implementation in order to get the results we are looking for.

In this super informative HANDS-ON class, you’ll learn how to select the right fabrics and stabilizers for each project, as well as tips and tricks for success. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have 2+ completed projects, plus the skills and knowledge you need to continue making beautiful in-the-hoop creations at home.
Class price includes a kit that will be composed of material and stabilizer for projects to be stitched in class and over 20 Machine Embroidery Geek Designs to get you started. It is recommended you bring a machine as there will be none to rent. You will also need to bring an assortment of thread colors and a few extra prewound as well as empty bobbins.
In this class we will talk about collaboration in the industry and how building a network can help avoid purchasing bad artwork (stolen and badly redrawn art from Etsy, online groups, drives, etc.) Other positives of building a network of people that you know, like and trust to avoid being scammed or ripped off by those that are just out to make a buck and disappear or that convert printers (such as DTF) and do not know what they are doing so the end product fails.

This will be a “debate” style. Each vendor will be introduced, and then we will take turns asking each vendor a question from the audience. The contest will be judged by the attendees in attendance. We will have a meet and greet following the vendor panel. This will be a great night of fun and networking among like minded people.

Embrilliance Essentials can open up a whole new work in your machine embroidery adventures! It allows you to be even more creative and design new and personalized embroidery projects. In this hands on class, we will use Embrilliance Essentials to merge designs, change and remove elements from existing designs, add lettering and more. The tools in Essentials allow you to easily change up the designs in your stash. They will quickly become one of a kind personalized expressions that you will enjoy stitching.

The class is all about the initial foundation of theory John learned from his Schiffli mentor more than 33 years ago, and will contain the most important information you’ll ever learn about digitizing. If you’ve ever been to a hands-on software class before you might be skeptical, since often the person who knows the least get the most attention during class, while others are left waiting. Not this time! Two weeks prior to class attendees will download a demo version of the software and some basic tutorials about the tools needed for class. Because everyone will come prepared, laptop loaded with the demo software and knowing where the tools are, you’ll be ready for accelerated learning! Note: This software is developed for a Windows operating system. There are customers that run this software on their MAC computers when using Parallels.
